This is Chandler, he is my “heart” baby.  He was born with a Pulmonic Valve Stenosis, which means that the pulmonic  valve in his heart was too narrow and he could not receive adequate oxygen to his lungs because the blood could not get through properly.    Heart valves should be the consistency of tissue paper and have 3 little leaflets.  Chandler’s valve was the consistency of cardboard and only had 2 leaflets.  He was not diagnosed in utero. Instead, after giving birth the nurse listened and listened and then said the words no mother ever wants to hear. “There is something wrong with his heart” We were given the diagnosis when he was 24 hours old and when he was two weeks old he was sedated and the wonderful surgeons at Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, UT performed an angio plasti.  They inserted a tiny balloon into a vein in his groin and the blood flow carried the balloon to the pulmonic valve where they inflated the balloon essentially tearing the valve open and creating a wider valve.   He is 8 years old now, and every year we go see the Pediatric Cardiologists at Primary Children’s and they perform an Echo cardiogram to see how much the valve is leaking, he will always have a certain level of leakage since the valve was torn, and if the leakage becomes too much he will have to undergo a valve replacement, but we are keeping our fingers crossed. ~Amy~ Flowerz in Her Hair

Meet Alyssa

On 11/13/09 our beautiful daughter Alyssa Roze was born. 5 weeks early weighing in at 3lbs 13oz. Alyssa was born with a congenital heart defect (CHD) known as Tetralogy of Fallot. Up until that very day we had never even heard of CHD nor that it effects so many beautiful children every day. Although our family struggled with her having to be taken from us to go to another hospital the very day she was born, it won't compare to what we will face when the time comes for her open heart surgery. Everyday is special, never will we take anything for granted. We know that the road ahead may be rough, however we try to remain positive knowing that in the end Alyssa will have a heart that is healthier. ~Melissa

100% of the profits from the Heart Babies Collection are going to be donated to Alyssa’s family for her heart treatment.

When Chandler was born we had no idea there was such a huge community of parents going through similar experiences and ours seems so minor compared to what others are going through.  For this reason we have created the Heart Babies Collection of Flowers and Bows.

UPDATE

Alyssa had open heart surgery in March, and came through it beautifully.  We are still hoping to raise more money to help her family with her medical expenses.
